2016 was a year of marketing and business development.
During 2015, in order to develop skills and knowledge as a translator I attended a mass of international translation conferences. Whereas this year, I focused in promoting Blossom Translations and attended two of the world’s leading industry international events, Fruit Logistica and Fruit Attraction.
What do Fruit Logistica and Fruit Attraction have in common? They are both my selected international events to grow trust and sell my product. What is my product? For the new readers, Blossom Translations is my registered trademark and I provide specialist translation of websites and content in the fresh produce industry.
Throughout this year I used my new website, Twitter, Instagram, my blog, flyers and a mascot called Tomatillo to promote my services. I even asked for quotes for press adds. All these moves and visibility enhancement, lead to an invitation by the Fruinet.com group. Fruitnet is the world’s leading fresh produce press group. This group invited me to write a comment piece, that would be published in Eurofruit Magazine, an international marketing publication for fresh produce buyers in Europe. This edition of Eurofruit magazine will be distributed at Fruit Logistica 2017. Free advertisement right in front of the potential client’s nose. How about that?
I accepted the challenge and asked for a native editor’s help. In 2017 I will challenge Portuguese FP magazines. Adding to these, the organization team of Fruit Logistica created a contest to celebrate its 25th anniversary. During 2016 each participant would publish a photo / selfie with their favourite fruit of the week, and every week in a different set until the day of the event. This could be “my favourite Christmas fruit”, “my favourite sweet fruit', etc. We used their hashtag and our pictures would be republished on the event’s website, plus twitter and Instagram page. Again, free advertisement. Due to my avid participation in this contest, I received a VIP pass for the 25th edition of Fruit Logistica at Messe Berlin!
Last but not the least, on the 28th December 2016, I received and accepted my first Call for Speakers invitation and I will be sharing my experience at the 3rd International Wordfast Conference in Varna, Bulgaria.
And this was 2016.
