Organizing informal events for translators every two months, taking part of the Formal Committee of a Translators Association, being a speaker in translation conferences, participating in Instagram contests organized by my target market and meeting potential clients in market niche industry events, where not in my plans when I began my career. Here is my list of accomplishments for the year that is about to end.
January 2017 – After meeting in person and exchanging a few emails with one of the main editors of the Fruitnet Group, Blossom had a fresh produce and translation related article in the 501 issue of the Eurofruit magazine. The Eurofruit magazine belongs to the Fruitnet Group and is The International Marketing Magazine for Fresh Produce Buyers in Europe.
February 2017 – Blossom attended Fruit Logistica for the third time. It happened to be its 25th anniversary. To celebrate, the organization of this event opened an Instagram fruit selfie contest. I won a first prize, a VIP ticket for the event. Since October 2016, every week the organization team of Fruit Logistica picked a theme (“my favourite exotic fruit” or “my favourite small fruit” were just a few) and the participants would publish a selfie. My potential clients saw my profile and deep interest for the fresh produce market, visited my website, social networks and therefore increased my website leads.
March 2017 – Thanks to the marketing team of Blossom Translations, I found that social networks would have nothing but a positive impact on the brand’s growth. I decided to have an advertisement for a list of festivities around the world, mainly related to fruit and vegetables. Those ads are currently published at Blossom’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
April 2017 – I became a qualified professional trainer and obtained the Portuguese official adult teaching skills certificate. In April I started in-house training three employees at my family business. My three pupils are now learning English level A.1.1 and I am very happy to see them evolve.
Also in April, Kathrin Bussman interviewed me for The Worldly Marketer Podcast. I underlined the value of specialized translation services and what companies need to consider when marketing to European versus Brazilian Portuguese costumers.

May 2017 – I kept putting my trainer skills into practice and spoke at the Wordfast Forward International Translation conference in Varna, Bulgaria. My talk was about building a strategy to reach direct clients at market niche industry events.
June 2017 - I was a speaker at Aptrad’s Translisbon Conference in Lisbon. Again I spoke about how to build a strategy to reach direct clients at industry events, and this time in Portuguese.
In June I integrated monthly ads in Blossom’s marketing plan. After picking out a few official and non-official fruit related events, I contacted my designer & illustrator and she has been doing an extraordinary work. You can check them out here http://bit.ly/2ayfomc.
October 2017 – I attended the Veggie World event, Europe’s largest and oldest vegan trade fair for products and services aimed at the general public and industry. Attending this event increased my contact list, my knowledge and helped me understand that the fresh produce market may not be the only point of interest.
Still in October, I attended the 9th Edition of Nova Fruticultura, a conference about innovation, tendencies, culture and technology in fruit production, organized by Vida Rural, a Portuguese specialized web publication that informs the Agri-business about the latest news and trends of the agricultural sector.
November – I was nominated APTRAD’s official attendee of the Translation and Localization Conference in Warsaw, Poland in March 2018. What an honour! APTRAD is the Portuguese Translators and Interpreters Association and I have been working with them since its foundation in 2015.
December – Blossom participated in an Agri-food Conference in Lisbon, called “Made in Portugal”. This conference was about Portugal’s new opportunities and competitive advantages in the agri-business sector. There was a debate of strategies and specific actions to boost the creation of value in the agri-business in Portugal, focused in innovation and internationalisation.
Also in early December, I have decided to start a business coaching program that will help me comprehend which steps I need to focus in at the moment to keep the business growing. The program will kick off in January 2018 and I will do it with a professional mentor.
This fully active year told me that proactivity and entrepreneurship are vitally important in a freelance career.
Blossom’s professional translation and marketing services open doors to internationalisation, end communication issues and help your business bloom and grow.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
